Remember the good old days when Gary Ross and Jennifer Lawrence were good buds filming The Hunger Games? Well more good times are ahead my friends! The Hollywood Reporter has spread the news that Gary Ross is currently whipping up a new film adaptation for the John Steinbeck novel East of Eden, and you guessed it – Jennifer Lawrence is set to play the leading lady.
Jennifer has been dominating the movie scene by portraying powerfully raw and complex characters in movies such as Silver Linings Playbook, Catching Fire and American Hustle, for which she is in the running to win a Best Supporting Actress Oscar this Sunday. But from the looks of things, Jennifer is about to flip things upside down on us by playing a notoriously soulless character named Cathy Ames.
A recent article in The Los Angeles Times calls Jennifer’s East of Eden character a “psychotic monster”, commenting further that, “In the course of the sprawling story, she murders her parents, abandons her children and poisons the madame at the brothel where she works as a prostitute.”
Lawrence’s incredible acting diversity will no doubt allow her to shape shift like Mystique into this new, enigmatic role with ease, but I think we all might be a little shell-shocked and confused when the face of our heroic Katniss takes on a new identity as a psychotic murder. How do you feel she will handle this intense, new role?
