Katniss Wins Best Female Character

Forever kicking butt, Katniss Everdeen has won the title of Best Female Character at the Moving Picture Institute’s 2014 Liberty in Film Awards for The Hunger Games: Catching Fire.

An excerpt from the Institute’s awards list says this of one of our favourite heroines:

Showing how a powerful central government uses fear and coercion to control its citizens, Katniss’s struggle with the Capitol illustrates the dangers of unchecked, unaccountable political power.

Katniss is a strong character who doesn’t take anyone’s attitude and can take care of herself, so it’s no surprise that she is being recognised.

I am super excited for this coming year, as 2014 is full of powerful book-to-movie heroines thanks to the Divergent, Maze Runner and Vampire Academy adaptations. In addition to those adaptations, we have more Katniss to look forward to with the release of The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1 in November. I am also really excited to seeing Scarlett Johansson reprise her role as the Black Widow in Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Who are you most excited to see in 2014?
