#VoteKatniss as Favorite Character at the MTV Movie Awards

vote-katniss-MTV-movie-awards

Last we heard from the MTV Movie Awards, they had snubbed our amazing lead character, Katniss Everdeen, in the “Best Hero” category. After the uproar caused by this decision (leading to a well-publicized online petition for MTV to include her in the category), it seems that MTV is trying to make amends by including her in a new category: Favorite Character. It doesn’t quite make up for the initial snub in my opinion, but it’s a step in the right direction, I guess.

Katniss is accompanied in this category by Beatrice (Tris) Prior from Divergent, Loki from the Marvel multiverse, Khan from Star Trek Into Darkness, and Veronica Mars. The voting is now open through Twitter, Instagram and Vine– if you want your vote to be counted, make sure to use the hashtag #VoteKatniss as specified above. The best photos and videos to go with these votes will also be featured on the MTV page for the category.

Katniss is currently in the lead, but Tris is close on her heels; in fact, several times over the course of me typing up this post the Divergent fans overtook us. So come on, tributes: Katniss was the reason MTV created this category to begin with, so we have to make sure she wins this one! Go forth and vote, vote, vote!

The MTV Movie Awards ceremony will take place on Sunday, April 13th, 2014, and will be transmitted live by MTV at 9 pm ET/8 pm CT. The show will be hosted by Conan O’Brien.

Be sure to tell us in a comment what you think about this approach from MTV. Do you think it makes up for them snubbing Katniss (and any other female heroes) in the first place? Let us know below!
