‘The Hunger Games’ and ‘Catching Fire’ on Empire’s 301 Greatest Movies List

Empire Magazine asked their readers for their votes in order to compile a list of the 301 greatest movies of all time, and the final results were released just today.

As expected, some of the biggest names in history dominate the top spots, but to our immense delight, the Hunger Games franchise is two for two on the list, with The Hunger Games: Catching Fire coming in at no. 267, and The Hunger Games at no. 253 (a good 36 spots above Battle Royale, may we add). Below you can read what they have to say about the two movies, along with a key for their acronyms.

  • USP – Unique Selling Point (What Makes It Special)
  • MVP – Most Valuable Player (Who Brings The Magic)
  • OMG – Oh My God! (Best Moment)

(They got the year for The Hunger Games wrong, but with 300 other movies to keep track of, we can allow them that one mistake).

What do you think of the list, and of the inclusion of both our movies in it? We’re pretty psyched, keep in mind that this is a list of greatest movies of all time— since the beginning of cinema! But still, do you think either movie (or both of them) should’ve taken a higher spot? Tell us in a comment!

  • I’m kind of shocked THG was higher than CF.

    • I think people enjoyed THG more as movie but CF is a better movie adaptation. My friends who haven’t read the books all hated CF tbh :/

      • Alex

actually my friends loved CF more than the hunger games and they found it better on the direction front, but i guess THG was higher on this list b/c it was the begining of the saga and it took the world by surprise.

    • Carla

i think THG is higher on the list because it was the first. it was the game-changer, as far as YA movies go. though i agree, i wouldn’t have expected that from voting fans.

The water surrounding the Cornucopia was the best OMG moment? :-/
Not the fact that Katniss and Peeta were sent back in or the cliffhanger?

    • Carla

yeah, i thought that was weird, too. i guess with 301 movies to write about, they just went with the first thing that came to mind…

Maybe next time the Tributes will be primed to topple the likes of The Godfather.
