It’s no secret that here at Jabberjays.net, we love Gwendoline Christie. We’re big fans from her role as Brienne of Tarth in HBO’s Game of Thrones, and we were overjoyed with the choice when she replaced Lily Rabe as District 2’s Commander Lyme in The Hunger Games: Mockingjay.
As if those two projects didn’t give her enough geek cred, The Hollywood Reporter has now revealed that she’s headed, alongside Oscar winner Lupita Nyong’o, to the Mecca of all geek movies: the upcoming and highly anticipated Star Wars: Episode VII.
“I could not be more excited about Lupita and Gwendoline joining the cast of Episode VII,” Lucasfilm president and Episode VII producer Kathleen Kennedy said in a statement. “It’s thrilling to see this extraordinarily talented ensemble taking shape.”
Disney/Lucasfilm is keeping most details about the new Star Wars film tightly under wraps, so we don’t know much about the character Gwendoline will be portraying. We do know, from Disney CEO Bob Iger, that Episode VII will take place 30 years after the events of Return of the Jedi. The movie, directed by JJ Abrams of Star Trek and LOST fame, is currently in production, so maybe in the upcoming months we’ll hear more about Gwendoline’s role in the film. But oh, can’t you just imagine her playing a Jedi warrior? We sure can. 😉
Star Wars: Episode VII is slated to open on December 18th, 2015. What do you think of these news? Are you happy to see the Hunger Games cast being part of other, and even bigger, science-fiction franchises? Tell us in a comment!
