Box Office Mojo is already reporting estimates for last night’s box office intake, and among those are the totals for The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 during Thursday night showings (8 pm and later). According to the website, the movie earned an estimated $17M in the United States just last night.
While this isn’t a bad intake (it marks the film as having the 13th highest Thursday/midnight launch), it’s much lower than Catching Fire‘s $25 million and even The Hunger Games‘ $19.7 million (the latter of which was midnight-only). This leads the Box Office Mojo analysts to be concerned that the predictions of a $150M opening weekend won’t be realized. In fact, they state that if the movie follows Catching Fire‘s pattern from last year, it will end the weekend with only $109M, which is a significant offshoot from the expected totals.
Do you think the movie will hit the expected opening weekend targets? Tell us how you feel about this in a comment. And don’t forget that you can still help these totals, by going to the theater more than once this weekend! The fight’s not over until Sunday is done!
