RUMOR: Mockingjay Part 2 Teaser Premiering March 20th

Update: We have confirmed with a theater that there is something Mockingjay Part 2 with Insurgent, but we do not know what it is or how long it is. We’ve reached out to Lionsgate for comment, but have not yet gotten a response.

While many of us have previously discussed the possibility of a The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2 teaser trailer premiering with Lionsgate/Summit’s Insurgent on March 20th, we couldn’t be 100% sure.

Now, The Projection List, which guesses when movie trailers are set to be released in theatres, is saying it will indeed premiere with the Divergent sequel. Although they don’t have confirmation from the distributor, they are often right and reliable according to many fans of the site.

Additionally, they also suggest the other trailers will be released on April 24th with The Age of Adaline and on May 1st with Avengers: Age of Ultron.

You should also take into consideration that most trailers are usually released online a few days before they hit theatres. It’s still exciting to know that we might see it on the big screen this month!

Do you guys believe that their theories are right? Sound off in the comments below!

  • No, my bet is for may. But the logo for Part II, that could be it.

    • That seems kind of repetitive and anti-climactic though, the logo has already been in theaters at the end of MJ1. I guess one way to think about it though, is that not everyone saw it. But that kind of teaser is seriously the WAY-in-advance type, not a 8-months-prior type.

8 months prior IS “way in advance” for lionsgate, if history is to be taken into account.

IF there’s a teaser with insurgent, my vote goes to the motion poster.

Full trailers for hunger games have always been kept under wraps until a couple months before the movie releases. If this trailer does hit in March, it’s gonna be a logo or just a small scene of footage just like the last 3 films. 8 months is just 4 months short from a year away you know.

It kind of seems to good to be true, that would be even earlier than Catching Fire’s teaser. But these guys are often right? I guess one can hope…

  • To clarify – Projection List are only guessing – they’re putting different possible guesses down for the debut of the same trailer (teaser trailer). It’s not like there’ll be two different trailers in cinemas within a week of each other.

IMO the most *realistic* guess for the teaser trailer at the moment is the week of April 24 – when Age of Adaline (in the US) and Avengers (overseas, US following week) both come out – playing in theatres with both films obviously; main emphasis on playing with Avengers and then with Adaline because it’s a Lionsgate film so it’d be a bit weird not to have it with that too. Also CinemaCon is that week too – however a possible presentation from LGF is still to be announced, but if it is – trailer’s almost a lock for that week. Too perfect an opportunity. And actually that’s what Projection List had up first, then they added Insurgent because you can just slap a guess at a Mockingjay trailer whenever a new Lionsgate film is out.

Due to the fact that Insurgent (and fandom request dates like MTV Movie Awards) are so teen/fandom oriented i.e. the audiences are already much more aware of MJ2 than your average moviegoer, at most for that I expect either (and preferably) nothing, or the logo reveal teaser again (no point apart from oh we have to have something with Insurgent, logo teaser for MJ1 never hit domestic theatres anyway), or something like the first Capitol TV teasers for MJ1. Not a proper teaser trailer however.

    • Carla

well, i’m sure the logo (which is what i’m thinking this will be) counts as a “teaser trailer” as far as movie theaters are concerned. it’s only us fans that seem to expect teasers to have actual movie footage.

      • Wasn’t suggesting it didn’t count – generally if it’s shown in theatres preceding the film (as the Capitol TV stuff was), it counts as a trailer – to put it bluntly – the CF one counts but the MJ1 doesn’t.

And it’s exactly the type of teaser (with actual footage) that I don’t see happening with Insurgent/MTV Movie Awards, which was the point I was trying to make.

It took way longer last time, but I’m hoping they start earlier. Hope they go full force with mockingjay considering it is the last one. I’m also planning to avoid trailers more after part 1 trailers spoiled a lot of dialogue. I almost want to enter the movie blind, but i’ll probably crack after the first trailer XD

I hope they learned from last year and flood us with MJ2 fan stuff but be smart and don’t give away everything

  • emmanuel

Everyone saying no way other than the logo! Consider this. Star wars releases on December 18th 2015 and they already released the teaser”with footage” back in November 28th!! So… What do you think?

  • Barrel Rider

Haha! All the speculation, my vote goes to a motion logo.
