A couple of weeks ago, our friends at QuarterQuell.org discovered Amazon listings in both the US and the UK for an “Ultimate Edition” of Tim Palen’s book Photographs from The Hunger Games, retailing for a staggering $845 (£545). They confirmed with Assouline that the listings were real, but it wasn’t until a couple days ago that Lionsgate officially released more details about this new edition.
The publication of Tim Palen: Photographs from the Hunger Games was so well received, that publisher Assouline decided to make an Ultimate Edition of the book to meet the demands of their high-end collectors. Only 350 copies have been made of this oversized hand-bound leather book that includes 11 never-before seen images and an archival print of the cover image signed by Tim Palen.
Dimensions: 14 x 17 inches, 144 pages, 108 total images.
There’s no release date as of yet (UPDATE: It will be released in the UK on October 27, and on November 20 in the US), but you can pre-order at the Amazon listings above. It’s a huge book, definitely more collectors’ item than coffee table fare, so be sure to keep that in mind if you plan to purchase it. If you’re like us and immediately balked at the price, however, it might make you feel a lot better to know that Lionsgate’s proceeds for the book will go straight to charity, specifically the World Food Program and Feeding America.
If you still can’t afford to shill out $800 for this ultimate edition, don’t worry, the regular edition of the book has gone into a second printing, and you can still get it online from different retailers for around $75 (currently $46.61 on Amazon).
You can see a few more pictures of the book below. What’s your opinion of this “Ultimate Edition”? Will you buy it? Would you, if you had the money? Sound off in the comments, we’d love to read what you think.
