In previous years circumstances have been such that Hunger Games films that open in most countries in November will open in China– one of the biggest overseas markets for Hollywood movies– months later. This time around, our friends at QuarterQuell.org have found the Chinese version of the last Mockingjay Part 2 poster, which states that the movie will open in mainland China in both 2D and 3D on the same day as it does in the United States: November 20th.
Now, keep in mind that this isn’t set in stone; dates announced in posters have been delayed in the past. But if the movie does open that day, then we’re bound for an even bigger opening weekend than we thought! Not to mention this is great news for the Chinese fans, who often have to wait such a long time to watch movies we on the opposite side of the world take for granted because we get to see them fairly quickly.
What do you think of this news? Do you think an earlier release date in China might draw more of a focus from Lionsgate toward Asia as far as marketing is concerned? (I’m keeping my fingers crossed for all the Asian fans!). Tell us in a comment.
