VIDEO: Jennifer, Josh, Liam, Francis and Nina on the Epilogue and Deep In The Meadow

While in Beijing, China during the press tour, Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth, Francis Lawrence and Nina Jacobson spoke to Mtime about The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2.

Jennifer starts telling a story (which doesn’t include Josh) about her and Liam being trapped in a smoke bomb. Liam reminds us that he fractured his ankle in the same location. Josh sites the scene where he attacks Katniss, when the oil is spilling, as the most intense scene he filmed. Jennifer talks about the epilogue and how it was easier having her nephews play her children because Bear Lawrence knew Josh and so they could get along easier and if her other nephew got upset she could comfort him easily because she was his aunt. She picks the chariot dress in Catching Fire as her favourite outfit and bets on Mahershala Ali to win the Hunger Games. Until Liam gets offended and she chooses him instead. Josh confirms his weight loss was an effect and Jennifer jokes that she wishes they would do that to her.

Nina explains that you can’t have everything from the book in the film but the film should feel just like the book. It should serve the essense and themes of the story and relationships. Francis talks about Johanna and how they took all of the essence of her relationship with Katniss and tried to combine it in one scene. They talk about the split and the two distinct stories within Mockingjay. Francis confirms that they didn’t digitally recreate Philip Seymour Hoffman, all footage of him in Part 2 is real footage and they both detail scenes of Plutarch’s that were given to other actors. Francis says they always had the end in mind and always knew they would stick with the darkness of the source material. Francis talks about all the ideas they went through with the end credit song. Would they get someone to sing, would they just have score? Then the idea popped up of using the lullaby, ‘Deep In The Meadow,’ from the opening of The Hunger Games to bring the series full circle.

Stay in your seats, there is an end question. Jennifer, Josh and Liam pick which songs best represent their characters. Jennifer picks ‘Girl on Fire’ by Alicia Keys and Josh picks ‘I Will Always Love You’ by Whitney Houston. Liam takes ages deliberating, so Jennifer helps him out brilliantly and picks ‘(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction’ by The Rolling Stones.
