Scholastic reports that Suzanne Collins’s new Hunger Games prequel, The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, has sold over 500,000 copies in its first week of release, including print, e-books, and audiobooks.
Numbers from NPD BookScan, which tracks sales for about 85% of the print market, lend further credibility to Scholastic’s numbers, as they report that Ballad was their #1 title for the week with 270,000 copies sold.
These numbers would put Ballad‘s sales slightly ahead of Mockingjay‘s, which sold about 450,000 copies in its first week of release in 2010. The Hunger Games trilogy as a whole has sold over 100 million copies worldwide.
Have you already purchased and received your copy of Ballad? What format do you prefer? Have you read it yet? If you have, come chat about it with us in The Chapter Games, or listen to our discussion in our latest Jabbercast episodes.
