Today, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) released publicly their list of invitees for 2014. A total of 271 professionals of film will be allowed to join the most prestigious organization in this industry, should they accept this invitation. Among the names mentioned, there are a few mentions of The Hunger Games, including our Peeta, Josh Hutcherson.
As you may recall, Josh is not the first actor from our franchise to join the Academy; several others in the cast are known to be members, including Julianne Moore and our leading lady, Jennifer Lawrence. Being invited to the Academy is a huge honor for Josh, and a recognition that he’s made his mark in the industry through his films. So congratulations to him!
Apart from Josh, three other The Hunger Games: Catching Fire crew members have also been asked to join the Academy in its technical branches. You might remember their names from interviews released around the time of the Catching Fire premiere, as well as the DVD “making of” documentary. They are:
- Alan Edward Bell, film editor
- Jeremy Peirson, sound
- Eric Reynolds, visual effects
From the official AMPAS press release:
“This year’s class of invitees represents some of the most talented, creative and passionate filmmakers working in our industry today,” said Academy President Cheryl Boone Isaacs. “Their contributions to film have entertained audiences around the world, and we are proud to welcome them to the Academy.”
Congratulations to all of them, and thanks to all of our cast and crew members who are already members of the Academy, for representing our franchise so well!
What do you think about this news? Think this might give the Mockingjay movies more of a chance in the 2015 and 2016 Oscars, respectively? Sound off in the comments!
