Hunger Games Cast and Crew Participate in the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge

Jack Harry participates in the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge.

The ALS Ice Bucket Challenge is the latest fad that’s been taking over the internet. In case you’ve been living under a rock for the past couple months, the gist of it is that one person challenges another to pour a bucketful of ice water over their heads within 24 hours, or else they must make a donation to a charity focusing on awareness of and research against Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease), which is a terrible, debilitating neuromuscular disease.

When the challenge went viral this summer, many celebrities became aware of it and they decided not only to take it on, but also to donate and use their influence with their fans in order to raise more money for these charities. Our Hunger Games cast and crew are no exception, and several of them have already gamely complied with the challenge. You can see the videos below.

The biggest chain started when our friends from Panem Propaganda challenged several members of the Mockingjay cast, as well as director Francis Lawrence and Producer Nina Jacobson for the challenge. Nina was the first to take it on, and she nominated Jennifer Lawrence, Jena Malone and Natalie Dormer.

Natalie completed the challenge just today! Unfortunately her video isn’t embeddable, so you’ll have to head over to Buzzfeed in order to watch it.

So far there have been no videos from the other two, but Jena posted a message on all her social media sites, along with an Ice Bucket Challenge-inspired piece of art, stating that she will donate $1 for every “like” this piece receives in social media. You can see the Instagram version below, but don’t forget to also like it on Twitter and Facebook — you only have until tomorrow, August 28th at 5:30 am PST to make your clicks count!

As for Jen, she has no social media accounts of course, but Nina Jacobson confirmed that although she hasn’t done the challenge, she did donate to the cause:

Not long after Nina took the challenge on, Francis Lawrence did as well. He took it upon himself to nominate the Hunger Games boys: Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth and Sam Claflin.

Liam responded to Francis’ challenge (wearing a very trendy Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles jumpsuit), and among the people he nominated were Josh Hutcherson (again) and Woody Harrelson.

Josh, of course, wasn’t about to be left behind, and he went full-on wet t-shirt contest with his:

And some time later, Sam Claflin completed the challenge as well, with a little help from his lovely wife Laura Haddock:

Apart from this little chain, other members of the cast have also taken the challenge. Willow Shields was absolutely adorable in hers, while Elizabeth Banks, Julianne Moore and Evan Ross clearly had a blast with theirs. You can see all these videos below.

Catching Fire‘s Stephanie Leigh Schlund (Cashmere) also did the challenge, although the video has since been deleted from her Instagram. She nominated her on-screen brother Alan Ritchson (Gloss), who took it up a notch by using 7-Eleven slushies instead of ice water:

The Hunger Games‘ Alexander Ludwig (Cato) also took on the challenge, from the set of his current TV project, Vikings:

While it’s a lot of fun to watch our favorite celebrities get ice water dumped on their heads, please keep in mind that the purpose of this challenge is to raise awareness and money for the fight against ALS. If you’d like to donate to the cause, as well as get more information about this terrible disease, feel free to visit in the United States, and in the United Kingdom.

Stay tuned to this post, as we’ll update when/if more of our cast take on the challenge!
