Jennifer Lawrence’s ‘The Hanging Tree’ Tops the iTunes Chart in 37 Countries

Are you, are you coming to the tree? ‘The Hanging Tree’ by James Newton Howard, The Lumineers and Jennifer Lawrence heard in The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 is now at number 1 on the iTunes chart in 37 countries across the world including Germany, Norway and Mexico and has debuted in the top 10 in 70 countries including the US, UK, Sweden and Australia. It sold over 200,000 copies in the US in its debut week alone. So popular has the haunting tune become, that it is outselling Lorde’s curated soundtrack and has now been added to digital editions of the companion album as well as on the score.

We cannot wait to hear the levels of anxiety this surge in popularity is causing Jennifer Lawrence but hopefully now she might be on the way to accepting that just maybe she’s not such a terrible singer after all. And perhaps a lesson is to be learned, dare I say it, if the Young Adult Original Soundtrack must be done next year, maybe (just maybe) could we please get an appropriate one which reflects what we’ve seen on screen ie: the definition of the word ‘soundtrack.’ Come back, T-Bone Burnett!
